L'appli Logbook pour Android

Le journal de bord électronique pour navigateurs à voile et à moteur est disponible depuis mai 2024 pour smartphones et tablettes Android. L'appli enregistre les sorties automatiquement, lit les données NMEA du réseau de bord et en tire une attestation de milles propre au format PDF.

L'installation et les fonctions de base sont gratuites. Les nouveaux utilisateurs peuvent tester toutes les fonctions sans restriction ; ensuite, un abonnement annuel avantageux est proposé en option. Ceux qui ont acheté l'appli autrefois conservent leur périmètre — l'abonnement y est volontaire et soutient le développement.

Il faut Android 12.0 oder neuer. L'appli pèse environ 12 MB et est disponible en allemand, anglais, français, néerlandais, espagnol et italien — la langue se règle par application dans les paramètres Android.

Version 1.29 (build 100)

  • The PDF no longer shows only one battery voltage value, but the lowest and highest value of the day
  • Tab 2 falls back to OpenStreetMap when no Play Services are available
  • The last line in the PDF can now contain coordinates and location text on one line when they were split across two
  • All drop-down menus in the UI improved to make better use of the available space
  • Dark mode fix when editing tank sizes in the logbook settings

Version 1.29 (build 99)

A few personal words with this update: for NEW users the payment model changes from a one-off purchase to an inexpensive yearly subscription. There is plenty of time to try every function without restriction before paying. For EXISTING customers nothing changes — a subscription is voluntary there and supports further development.

  • Three possible crash causes fixed (when opening the app, on the chart and when editing the location text)
  • The weather cache is reset again when switching provider
  • In the PDF export, entries with unknown TWD/TWA/COG/SOG/pressure/precipitation showed 0 instead of ---
  • For entries after a course change, a value of 25 or more must be chosen, otherwise it leads to many inexplicable entries
  • Markers on the chart are hidden when you zoom further out
  • You can choose the colours yourself when colouring the track by status on the chart (and in the PDF)
  • Unused space in the header and in full-page charts in A4 PDF format is now used

  • Refuelling can now be documented in an entry. Fuel statistics based on this data will follow in a coming update.

Comment la version Android est née

De l'annonce en 2023 au test fermé puis à la publication sur le Google Play Store — les étapes clés du développement.

  1. New version with more open topics covered

    A new version was released that covers a few more of the outstanding topics.

  2. Testers wanted for the NMEA interface

    If you have the option to use NMEA as a data source for the Android app on your boat, please get in touch via support. Ideally you know the IP address and port for the NMEA data in your network.

    It only works if the data is freely available to third parties in your on-board WiFi. The Logbook app cannot process proprietary protocols, for example from older chart plotters.

  3. Release in the Google Play Store

    The moment had come: the Logbook app is available in the Play Store. At launch it was version 1.0 build 14 (visible at the very bottom of the app settings), build 15 was already in review.

    At around 6 euros the price was well below the iOS version. At launch, however, some functions were still missing compared to iOS.

  4. Build 15 in development

    Some UI elements were moved to Material 3 design. Logbooks can now also be deleted, and the app bar always shows the title matching the UI.

  5. Build 14 in closed testing

    All icons now have good contrast values and consistent colours.

  6. Build 13: dynamic colours

    Support for dynamic colours built in. There should be no more contrast problems in dark mode, and all hues follow the Android wallpaper settings.

  7. Build 12 in Google review

    The first version intended for the Play Store went into review at Google so that the closed test could be carried out afterwards — a prerequisite for publication in the Play Store.

  8. Build 11: PDF export works

    The PDF export is running. Configuring the font, limiting it to manual entries and the displayable text length followed in the next update.

  9. Build 10: multi-delete and all languages

    Deleting several entries at once under tools, sync errors fixed, support for all available languages (also switchable in the Android app settings) plus various smaller improvements.

  10. Build 9: resources and maintenance

    Editing resources (water tank, fuel tanks, batteries etc.), the skipper's manual became available, plus POIs and maintenance entries with and without a due date.

  11. Build 8: KML and CSV export, quick manoeuvres

    Export possible as KML and CSV in addition to GPX. The quick manoeuvres are fully implemented — including creating your own and adjusting the order in the settings.

  12. Build 7: recording by tapping the position

    The 🔴REC in the app bar is gone — instead a tap on the GPS coordinates starts and stops the recording, as on iOS. The blue frame in the app shows whether recording is active.

    The GPX export is now in the right place (tools), quick manoeuvres are available when creating an entry, and the PDF export produced a first dummy PDF.

  13. Build 6: logbook sync across several devices

    Logbook sync works across several devices — including to and from iOS devices.

  14. Build 5: new input screens

    New user interfaces for changing lat/lon, cloud cover, precipitation, water temperature, wave height and wind speed.

  15. Build 4 in the Play Store

    More functions from the iOS version moved into the Android app, and testers could still sign up.

  16. First screenshots and tester programme

    Development became concrete, with first screenshots from the log, chart and statistics. Volunteer testers were involved as early as possible while the developer account was in review at Google.

  17. Announcement of the Android version

    The plan was for a first version in 2024 — possibly without the full feature set, but available.

    The background: the iOS version of the Logbook app delighted many sailors, and more and more requests for an Android version came in. Android users should benefit from the Logbook app too.
