Engine settings in the Logbook app
Settings for calculating and handling the different engines in the Logbook app.

Configuring the ship's engines
You can configure the following:
— Number of engines (1–3)
— Names of the engines (for example starboard engine and port engine, or main engine and auxiliary engine)
— Function of the engines (propulsion, generator, both)

Engine settings
The engine settings apply per logbook, and you find them in the settings of the logbook.
Select the engine every time?
If you want to document every detail about your engines in the logbook, choose yes and thereby activate the advanced engine settings. This is the decisive switch that changes how an entry you create is presented — more on that below.
Renaming engines and defining their function
Now you can give each engine a name and also define the function the engine can be used for. Alternatively you can hide engines 2 and 3.
Difference in the status change dialog
Basic view
The simple view for changing the status. When you change the status, the simple selection of the different options is shown. In this variant the running hours of every newly created entry are calculated for engine 1 only, based on the current status. So the running hours are increased by the time difference to the previous entry if its status is “motoring” or “motorsailing”. Otherwise the value of the previous entry is simply carried over without adjustment. For engines 2 and 3 the running hours are always carried over from the last entry. This behaviour does not apply if you overwrite the running hours with data from NMEA.
Advanced view
The advanced view for changing the status. In this variant the complex menu is shown when you change the status. By tapping the engine symbols at the top you can differentiate whether an engine currently runs as generator or as propulsion, or is switched off. In this variant the running hours of every new entry are calculated for each engine according to its operating state (generator, propulsion, off).
For transparency the left-hand side directly shows the running hours of each engine in the previous entry and the value they will have in the new entry.
Operating state: generator
The running hours are increased by the time difference to the last entry, regardless of its status.
Operating state: propulsion
The engine hours are increased by the time difference to the last entry if its status is “motoring” or “motorsailing”. Otherwise the value of the last entry is carried over without adjustment.
Operating state: off
The value of the last entry is carried over and no time is added.
The status has to be possible
While an engine is active as propulsion, you cannot change the status to “sailing”, “at anchor” or “moored”. Conversely you cannot change to “motoring” or “motorsailing” while no engine runs as propulsion.
