Privacy Policy of the Logbook App

My principle: I process as little data as possible. I do not analyse your data, create profiles, show advertising or sell anything on. This policy describes which data the app and the website nevertheless have to process for their features to work.

2. What stays local
Your logbook entries, positions and images are stored on your device. They leave the device only in the cases described below. Purchases and subscriptions are handled by the store (Apple or Google); I receive neither your name nor payment data.
3. When the app transmits data to my server
Whenever the app connects to the server, your IP address is transmitted for technical reasons. As with any server access, it appears in the server's log files (see section 6). For app requests, the transmitted position appears there as well. After 30 days I truncate the IP address; I do not link it to the other data I store.

4. Notes on individual features
Geocoding and weather: My server performs the geocoding itself. For the weather, my server queries a weather service where needed (Apple Weather, World Weather Online or OpenWeatherMap). It transmits only coordinates and time, and no information about you or your device.
Live tracking: Anyone who knows the link can see the positions. You decide whom you give it to.
AI daily summary: The day's data is transmitted to OpenAI via my server. This happens only if you start the feature and have given your consent beforehand. I store the request and the result on my server for 90 days in order to find errors, detect misuse and improve the feature; after that I delete them. You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future by no longer using the feature or by writing to me. Do not include information about other people in entries you have summarised if they do not agree to this.
Logbook sync: The email address is used to assign your logbook on the server and to recognise you as its owner in support requests. I only provide support for data on the server if you have access to the mailbox you specified. When you stop the sync in the app, you can choose whether the data on the server is deleted. You can also request deletion by email.
Maps: The maps in the app come directly from Apple (Apple Maps) or Google (Google Maps). Your device retrieves them from there; in doing so, Apple or Google receives your IP address and the map section displayed. The privacy notices of Apple and Google apply.
Support by email or messenger: If you write to me by email, WhatsApp, Signal or Telegram, I process your sender details and the content in order to reply to you (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR) and delete them 3 years after the last contact. With messengers, the respective provider additionally processes your data under its own terms, in some cases outside the EU. If you do not want this, please use email.

Beyond this, I do not pass data on to third parties unless I am legally obliged to do so.
6. Website
The website does not use trackers, analytics tools or cookies for advertising or statistical purposes. When a page is accessed, the web server stores access data in log files for technical reasons (IP address, time, requested address including transmitted parameters, browser identifier). The same applies to requests from the app to my server; there, the requested address also contains the position of the entry. I use the log files solely to detect attacks and malfunctions and to investigate them afterwards (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), and I do not pass them on. After 30 days I truncate the IP addresses so that they can no longer be attributed to a person; I keep the truncated log files longer for security analysis.
7. Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future. To do so, write to me at website@logbook-app.com.
I cannot attribute to you any data that I store without a device or user identifier, and I can therefore neither provide access to it nor delete it selectively.
You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for me is the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision (Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany.
8. Obligation to provide data, automated decisions
You do not have to use any of the optional features. Without transmitting the position, the app cannot retrieve a place name or weather for an entry. No automated decision-making or profiling takes place.
9. Changes and translations
I update this policy when features or the legal situation change. The current version on this page applies. The German version is binding; translations are provided for better understanding.
