Getting started with the Logbook app on your first trip

Once you have answered the two or three questions in the introduction, which set your main preferences for everyday use, you are looking at an empty logbook. As long as it stays empty, the app keeps a short crib sheet of the most important functions on screen.

Your status (for example “Moored”, “Engine”, “At anchor” or “Under sail”) should always be up to date. You can see the current status in the bar at the top. With an empty logbook you start out “Moored”. Tapping the status creates a log entry that records the change. By default, switching from a status without way on (such as “Moored”) to one with way on (such as “At anchor”) also starts Auto recording — and switching back stops it again.

Auto recording creates entries in the background at the interval you set in the settings. You can also start and stop it manually at any time by tapping your position data in the middle of the top bar. Recording continues even when you leave the app. The blue frame around the app always tells you that recording is running.

The last button on the right of the top bar is the plus icon. Use it to write an entry in your own words, or pick one of the Quick Manoeuvres and let its wording create the entry for you. Quick Manoeuvres can be edited in the settings and can also be tied to a status change.

To delete a single entry, swipe across it from right to left (iOS), or open the entry and tap the three dots in the top right-hand corner (Android).
