Synchronise your logbook and share it with several devices
With Logbook Sync your logbook is stored on the server and can be kept on several devices at the same time — handy for co-ownerships and changing crews.

Sync always applies to one single logbook
You find the sync settings in the settings under “Logbook Sync”. Important: they always apply only to the currently selected logbook — which is why its name (“MS Tuffy” in the example) is shown right above the settings. If you want to synchronise a different logbook, switch to it first via “Change logbook”. This is exactly how you can share each logbook with different people and devices: the charter logbook with the current crew, the boat logbook with the co-owners.
Enter an email address and activate
Before you switch sync on, you enter an email address. It is used for support cases only.
If you lose your phone — “phone overboard” — I will only send the recovery of your synchronised logbook to exactly this address. The address is not verified and is not used for anything else; you should just make sure you have access to that mailbox in an emergency. Then tap “Activate” — that is all.

Send the logbook to another device
Once sync is active, you send a unique link via “Send logbook to another device”. The quickest way is AirDrop or Quick Share to the device next to you — alternatively by email or your favourite messenger. You can choose between “link only” (ideal for AirDrop) and “link with instructions” (ideal for an email). On the target device the Logbook app has to be installed and opened at least once, then the link is simply opened there. The link works from Logbook version 2.82 (iOS) and 1.17 (Android) onwards.
Careful: everyone who has this link has full access to the logbook and can change and delete all entries. So only pass it on to people you really trust with your logbook.
Switching sync off again
When switching sync off you have to decide what should happen to the data on the server. Option one: all data stays on the server, nothing changes for the other devices that have access to the logbook — on this device you simply have a local logbook again. Option two: all data on the server is deleted; other devices turn the logbook into a local logbook on their next sync attempt. In both cases every device keeps a complete local copy.
Note: a logbook can only be deleted once sync has been switched off for it.
